Prevention, by definition is the act of preventing something from occurring. Research has shown that prevention programming can reduce the future occurrence of a given problem. Prevention programs typically rely on education about the issue to reduce future incidence. Education is a powerful tool for prevention. However, it is only one tool along a continuum of services required to make large scale changes.
The School Outreach Prevention Program of Washington County Children Services is a comprehensive, multifaceted and integrated approach for accomplishing the goal of addressing barriers to learning/teaching and student success. The School Outreach Prevention Program serves as a student support system for the elementary and middle schools in Washington County and individual students experiencing various types of barriers to their success.
The School Outreach Prevention Program offers many tools and outreach activities to provide effective and holistic prevention support services to the children and families that we serve through the Washington County Schools and within the community.
